Medtronic intrathecal drug delivery uses the SynchroMed® II System to continuously deliver medication to a specific location in your body where it can have the best effect.
The system treats severe spasticity by delivering a liquid form of baclofen, called Lioresal® Intrathecal (baclofen injection), directly into the intrathecal space where fluid flows around the spinal cord.
The SynchroMed II programmable drug delivery system is used to treat severe spasticity caused by:
The SynchroMed II pump (a small, programmable, battery-powered medical device that stores and delivers medication) is surgically placed in the abdomen. A thin, flexible silicone tube, called a catheter, is inserted near the spine and connected to the pump.
A clinician fills the SynchroMed II pump with Lioresal Intrathecal (baclofen injection), which is then delivered through the catheter to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
